There is no denying it.
This was The Wedding Of 2018.
And surpassed even what I had imagined.
Of course I had never been M.O.T.B and like all things, doing something for the first time comes with anticipation, wonder and a dose of self doubt. What if I couldn’t be everything I needed to be on the day? Could I fulfil on the M.O.T.B role in a way that left my beautiful girl truly know how important she is to me? And for my now 5th kid to get how delighted I am that he is a part of my family? I fully admit that I had some very high standards for myself, I was nervous about not reaching them. It was about being great for Whitney, creating a space of only love. She deserved absolutely no less.
When Stephen and I were standing at the entrance of the ceremony with Whitney, the moment before we were to walk her down the aisle, I was so very present to what a massive moment this was. To declare the commitment of marriage, witnessed by their most important people, Whitney & Matt were embarking on one of life’s biggest adventures! Partnership, children, challenge and opportunity, a commitment as huge as this will deliver the opportunity of a lifetime. Personal growth cannot be avoided! I am clear that I would not be half the person I am today had it not been for my marriage to Stephen. Every marriage can deliver a gift, if we are willing to discover it, and our amazing daughter is entering into her own adventure.
I made a promise to Whitney 10 years ago that I would sing at her wedding and while I had many moments of thinking it was a really bad idea, I knew that it was also an extraordinary opportunity to acknowledge her and her brand new husband! While she knew I would be singing, she did not know that her brothers had been secretly preparing as well, I was so excited for when they stood up to accompany me!! They were wonderful of course! I’m no Adele and there are some seriously wobbly bits and none of that mattered. Whitney really did feel my love. This was also the first time I had sung in over 12 years, I have found my voice again. How cool is that?
There was a 4 hour block of time at the wedding where I did not pick up my camera (I know, who’d of thought that was even possible for me?) and surrendered to the magic of the moments as they unfolded.
This album is from the moments that I did have my camera in hand, they document only bits of what was a weekend of extraordinary love, celebration, acknowledgement, special friends, family, fun and unrestrained carousing!
And for me, this was a day where I got to be great for my Whitney.
